Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast
Held the third Monday in January, this annual event draws hundreds to celebrate diversity.
After breakfast, participants join the county-wide MLK march.  Reservations can be made through the City of Centerville at 433-7151.

Council Education
The Council Education initiative provides ongoing diversity and multicultural education to its own members as well as the community via:

  • Community Forum Series, featuring guest presenters to speak on specific races, religions and other timely topics

  • International Family Night Out, highlighting the customs, food and other aspects of a specific culture

Business Education
Attraction and retention of a diverse workforce is key to diversity. Participation in Chamber of Commerce events and networking opportunities on diversity-related business practices are just a few ways the Council encourages a diverse workforce.

Community Projects
Projects are planned annually to promote awareness and inclusiveness throughout the community.  Ongoing projects include:

  • Quarterly Diversity Calendar, highlighting cultural and religious events in the community

  • Recipes Project, collecting and sharing recipes that represent our community's ethnic, religious, and national heritage. Learn how you can contribute to this community-wide project, or simply download some delicious recipes to try at home!

  • Baskets of diversity-related picture books delivered to area preschools to promote diversity at an early age

George C. Cooper Diversity Award
Named after founding member of the Diversity Council and lifelong diversity activist George C. Cooper, this award honors individuals and/or organizations that embody diversity and promote it within the community.  The first ever award was presented in 2005 to Randall Eldridge, Manager of the Centerville Kroger store, and Washington-Centerville Public Library.
